1in6 offers several programs that explore the impacts of unwanted sexual experiences in the lives of men. These trainings and presentations highlight the most relevant issues for advocates and service providers from across a range of fields and levels of professional expertise. All are appropriate for conferences, local, and regional agency workshops, or as stand-alone seminars. Each training and presentation we offer addresses the intersectionality of men’s lives which can affect their ability and willingness to address harmful experiences. These include race, socioeconomic status, nationality, immigration status, ability, religion, sexuality, and other influences that must be respected and honored if real understanding and healing are to happen.
1in6 trainings and presentations increase advocates’ and service providers’ awareness of the many potential impacts of traumatic sexual experiences on men’s mental and physical health. This knowledge and understanding fosters greater understanding and compassion, and more effective services. Earlier identification of this common underlying source of suffering, paired with more effective interventions, may mitigate negative emotional, social and physical outcomes. Bottom lines: enhancing the well-being of men and their families and communities.
Considers the particular ways men may respond differently to sexual trauma, and explores how providers working with men can remain sensitive & receptive to this possible underlying source.
Because social norms affect men’s responses to sexual trauma, male survivors often mask their experiences with other presenting issues: emotional dysregulation, substance abuse, compulsive behaviors, suicide, rage, & violence. This interactive presentation may challenge you to rethink current assumptions, examine expectations & to employ a lens of masculinity to enhance your existing skills when working with men. Also available as a Webinar!
